Top 100 of 2017: 30 to 21

So let's take on the night, if the light is in...

030 Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso ft Florida Georgia Line & Watt - Let Me Go

A late entry with a big impact. Hailee Steinfeld continues to explore the lounge EDM scene, teaming up with the unlikeliness of Florida Georgia Line. What's really weird is how well the song works, even the muffled breaks add a oddly satisfying touch to the piece. Let's wait for the next unusual collaboration, and it better be like this song.

029 Louis Tomlinson ft Bebe Rexha - Back To You

My favourite member from One Direction, I do wish he got more attention. Considered the 'forgettable' member, Tomlinson has a lot of potential, he can hit some high notes. This little song about complicated love has a sticky beat and highlights the fluidity of Louis' voice. Add in a main feature from 2016, Bebe Rexha, and you've got a simple yet complex story to tell. Oh Louis, I hope you become a bigger artist in 2018.

028 The Killers - The Man

Haven't been paying much attention from The Killers, but I am pleasantly surprised by this entry. Mixing their sound with a funk, the band oozes confidence, especially when they declare that they are USDA certified lean. Simply can't get enough of this song, from the chorus to the bridge - it's one well crafted song. Nothing can break down this band from making good music.

027 Kesha - Praying

Speaking about past experiences can be hard, but Kesha has shown the grace and beauty in this melodic song. Displaying her vocal range, Kesha brings out raw vocals that have been hiding for a while to hope for the best to the person that has wronged her. Even if the song was just piano, I am certain that it would have been just as powerful of a piece. All that I can say is, wow. Who knows what else Kesha has embodied in her music, and I can't wait to see the force reckoned inside of her.

026 Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes

Blessing the world with new music, Sam Smith creates a mellow song that doesn't come off too sad. When it comes to ending a relationship, Smith is all to familiar with the experience to feel anything at all. The song brings out all of the typical Sam Smith mannerisms (symphony, choirs, high notes), but it's undeniable to resist such a voice. While I hope to see more variety from Sam Smith, I will enjoy this piece for the moment.

025 Drake - Passionfruit

Could listen to the rhythm all day. Drake brings all of the awkward talk, highlighting the troubles of love when it's appreciated from afar. Beautifully mastered, but missing some content - perhaps less is more. The last words spoken in the song might be the highlight, because the woman is at a lost for words... what does one say when they let their emotions out? Full of questions, the beat goes on even when there is nothing left. Well now, less is more.

024 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times

The total heartthrob from One Direction, taking everyone for a thrilling ride. There was no doubt that Harry Styles would has a massive solo career, but this song proves that he's here to stay. Coming off the tails of Classic Rock music, this ode is the sweetest goodbye to his boy band days, awaiting for the next chapter in his life. Just goes to show that Harry Styles has big things coming up. Bravo Styles, you've outdone yourself.

023 Iggy Azalea ft Anitta - Switch

Continuing with the Latin vibe scene, Iggy Azalea delivers a fun song. Adding Brazilian singer Anitta adds the right amount of pizzaz to the song - it wouldn't be the same without her. With nonsensical lyrics, it's a song not to be taken seriously - and that's perfectly fine. Not sure what happened between Iggy Azalea and her record label, but this song pretty much disappeared midway through the year. Bummer, it had the potential to be the song of the summer.

022 Lorde ft Khalid, Post Malone & SZA - Homemade Dynamite

Sexy is all I can say about this song. It's not like Lorde to release such a sexually-driven piece, but that beat is one big flirt. If the original wasn't enough, she added three of the biggest upcoming artists from 2017, and it gets better. Each artist makes the song their own, and it works so well that I can't wait for a video to be released (and there better be one!) The only time I am okay with sexuality explored with a song - it was done right in this piece.

021 Charlie Puth - Attention

Once again, Charlie Puth has released a song that dominated the radio. Well aware of the tricks by his ex, Puth cannot deny the motives that once worked on him. Guitar riffs to breakdowns, this song it sleek and sexy, but heading in a bad direction. Not sure what it is with Charlie Puth and all of these controversial relationships, but his music keeps getting better every time. Let's see what happens in the next breakup, shall we?
