Top 100 of 2017: 50 to 41

Close your eyes, I'll sing your favourite song...

050 Marshmello ft Khalid - Silence

Not familiar with either artists until I heard this song - and it's impressive. Khalid has one of the smoothest voices I've heard in a long time, and adds a dynamic to an uplifting instrumental breakdown.  And it's also great to hear a different dynamic on EDM, just shows the progression in music.

049 Clean Bandit & Marina & The Diamonds - Disconnect

Did you know that this song took two years to be released? Fans were exceptionally happy when this dramatic Pop piece got released - there shouldn't have been a wait. But this discotheque song highlights the loneliness that people try to void - and perhaps it's time for people to take a break from their lives. Two bands that I am fond about, doing it right.

048 Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still

Where in the world did this song come from? Out of nowhere, this song exploded into mainstream media, blasting on the radio and playing in TV shows from left to right. There is a reason why this song never gets old: the high-pitched singing. Recently finding out the vocals were done by lead singer John Gourley, this song gets interestingly more appealing. A one-hit wonder? Perhaps, but the song was fun while it lasted.

047 Cardi B - Bodak Yellow

Cardi B had one fantastic year. Not only is this rapper likeable, she hits her verses hard. With a big attitude, Belcalis Almanzar's single brings this gang vibe to life, which has broke records throughout 2017. From being a stripper to one well-known rapper to date, Cardi B has a big, bright future coming her way. To be honest, I am excited to see what else the rapper can deliver - because we know it's going to be banging.

046 Lady Gaga - The Cure

After the release of "Joanne," Lady Gaga released this ballad that brought back her monsters' attention. This love song has the vocal power, but the balance to create such a pure sound. Stefani Germanotta has gone through many genres of music, but it's songs like this one that suits her best. In the name of Pop, Lady Gaga will always save the day, even if it's a slow song.

045 Alesso - Falling

A whirlwind of a ride, this dizzying track takes the listener into a high - almost hallucinogenic. Like moving without being aware, the airy vocals and its manipulation makes you feel as though you're in an experience that feels to good to let go. For a simple song, the mesmerization of its three minutes brings out is outstanding...

044 AOA - Excuse Me

K-Pop has been making its scene into North America (finally!) and I couldn't be any happier. While I may not know of the songs that are dominating the charts, this one was brought to light by my friend. Let me say one thing: the dance is inappropriately amusing. The mystery lured into the background brings a chase that remains unsolved at the end of the song. It's unfortunate that the group disbanded this year, would have been interested to know about the follow-up.

043 Said The Whale - Step Into The Darkness

Bringing out the Indie music on the list, Said The Whale is a band that I haven't been paying much attention. That being said, this song brings out the hope and potential in a whimsical melody. What I enjoy about Indie music is its general happiness, there's a reason why bands have a big following. One song that never got old, even if it got played to death.

042 The Shins - Name For You

On the other hand, this song was played to death, and it's still as amusing from the first listen. A silly tune with a cautionary tale told, The Shins adds their fun with unfamiliar instruments, producing family-friendly music. What can I say, this song is also played where I work. A song not to be taken too seriously, it's a child-like state of mind good time.

041 Yellow Claw ft DJ Snake & Elliphant - Good Day

Couldn't stand the song the first time I heard it - I thought the vocals were too artificial for my liking. However, when you have someone that plays the same five songs again and again, you being to find some interesting bits. My favourite part of the song would definitely be the instrumentation, each having their distinguished sound so none are alike. And, the message brings out the best mood in anyone. I guarantee once this song is played, you can't help but be feeling good.
