Top 100 of 2017: 10 to 1

I think about her and she knows it...

010 Taylor Swift ft Ed Sheeran & Future - End Game

Here it is, the perfect Taylor Swift track from "Reputation." Despite what everyone thinks of her, Swift is still the same woman, looking for the love and hoping it lasts forever. With help from Ed Sheehan and Future, this R&B influenced jam represents her beliefs, without coming off conceited. To the hopeless romantic, even I await for the one I get to call mine. An excellent song, I can't get enough of the New (but still old) Taylor.

009 Clean Bandit ft Zara Larsson - Symphony

Clean Bandit has been releasing hit after hit, seems like they never take a break. Coming in with Zara Larsson, this track brings out all of the works, from violins to the Electronic beats, in the name of love. When someone gets to be the soundtrack to your life, you can be rest assured that it will sound something like this. And major props to the director behind the video, it's one beautiful yet tragic clip.

008 The Weeknd - Die For You

When the love is gone, but you still yearn for them... It's a complicated subject, but Abel Tesfaye manages to cope through the feelings. The Electronic background mixed with symphonic melodies supports the depth of the song, especially when the chorus rolls in. That proclamation of love, being there even when they're not wanted, shows the true character of a person. Nothing like The Weeknd to make things interesting, and bring out those inner feelings.

007 Miley Cyrus - Younger Now

Unfortunately, not many people cared that the old Miley resurfaced from her "Bangerz" days. But this ode to self actualization is absolutely remarkable, as Miley takes responsibility about her past. Cyrus understands that everyone changes, and it's not a bad thing. Eventually, a person will find out who they are, and that is the most exciting part. This honest message was truly a satisfying song, and I wished more people listened to the song. Miley is just being Miley, and there is nothing more a person could ask.

006 Maroon Five ft SZA - What Lovers Do

One song that always made me happy, even if it's rather simple. Curiosity has gotten the best of Maroon 5, wanting to know if someone loved them back. Add in SZA, and this song becomes a Dance party for one (at least, for me). Infectious is the beat, the moment the first tune is strung out - how can you not put a smile on your face? Placing sweet and sour together, this push and pull brings out a playful tune that is actually silly, but all in good fun. Consider the song a humble detour - it's still exciting.

005 Shawn Mendes - There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back

For some reason, the first thing that comes to mind when I hear this song is the Flamenco dance - the intensity from the guitars is the reason to blame. Shawn Mendes adds grit and force with this song, a more powerful piece to come out from the Canadian native. Probably my favourite track of Mendes so far, this song was addictive. And the sensational vocals are a plus from Shawn, sounding better than his previous singles. All this time, who knew such a powerhouse single was contained.

004 Zedd & Alessia Cara - Stay

The official car tune of 2017, only bringing out the best amateur karaoke moments. An unlikely duo came together to create one of the best songs from the year, producing some fantastic results. The manipulation works with Cara's voice, and the 'hmm' throughout the song is a big reeler. Even the subtle change in the lyrics is a nice touch, keeping the listener aware with what's being said. Not to mention, the Cartoon Version was a great touch. Thank you Zedd, you always keep things interesting.

003 Calvin Harris ft Frank Ocean & Migos - Slide

I'm sure there were many contenders for song of the summer - this is my choice. Just a big sucker for instrumental introductions, and the high-pitched voice can't shun me away from this grooving jam. What seems like a short song spans for almost four minutes, leaving me wanting more from the track. Full of funk and soul, this song brings back Calvin Harris to his laid back days; there is nothing wrong with that. More appealing sounds and taking a step back from his previous efforts, it's all going in the right direction.

002 Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You

Blew up on the radio, and would never stop playing throughout the year. This song was Ed Sheeran's biggest hit from 2017, and it's clear to see why. A Pop song with a tropical addition to the sound, the song delivers on all of the elements for the perfect hit. Although I don't see the resemblance to TLC's "No Scrubs," it goes to show that Ed Sheeran is able to create a Pop song. Overall, a great hit from Ed, it's always good to see artists stepping out of their comfort zone - this one was worth the risk.

001 Cheat Codes ft Demi Lovato - No Promises

Did not expect a single like this to be the top song of the year. If there is anything about love that I have experienced, it's that you shouldn't put high standards on them. Demi Lovato was the perfect addition to Cheat Codes' single, adding the delicate touch to an overall perfect song. Additional vocals from Trevor Dahl are a nice touch, especially with the harmonies throughout the chorus. Love is a complicated topic, and this song puts it all together well: it's intense and full of wonder, but just make sure to keep yourself together before falling apart. What a wonderful thought.
