Top 100 of 2018: 40 to 31

'Cause baby, you been living life inside a bubble...

What a way to begin the year, this song provided enough spunk to get 2018 moving in the right direction! An homage to "In Living Color," Bruno Mars brings Cardi B to relive this 90s memory for today's audience. One of the few songs that lasted throughout the year, and the song still sounds fresh after every listen. Give it up to the man who can bring back old school and make it feel new.

Confusion never sounded so smooth, it's one song that grew quickly on me. I haven't been the biggest Scott Helman fan, but this one works for me. Some times, what you want to say doesn't come out as you imagined - I'm sure we've all been there, having expectations versus what happens in reality (never goes the way you imagined, right?) Not that every one gets what they want, but here's to hoping to a rhythmic tune.

This new era of Lights is exciting, not only coming out with quality music, but also releasing a comic book series. Going towards a moody tone, this song has a nice balance of electronics and vocal layers to create a rather interesting piece. Far from the Pop pieces that credits the rise of her popularity, Lights has found a genre that suits her voice, maturing the message and getting comfortable in her skin. Well done.

Continuing with artists finding their genre, in comes Kelly Clarkson who absolutely kills in this performance. What could have been deemed as boring transforms into a thrill with the range that Clarkson presents in this piece. The triple-metre ballad is soulful while showing off some R&B flare, which is something I can get use to seeing more from Kelly Clarkson. The American Idol has come far.

One light-hearted single from the "Fifty Shades Freed" soundtrack, it's not a song I would have imagined for the film. While still sexy, the song is still friendly with its beach vibes and cinematic violins in the background. Didn't know such a song could come out of Hailee Steinfeld, and it's all thanks to the help of BloodPop® and friends. Romanticism hasn't sounded so delightful before.

Such a big sucker for introductions, and this one was grand. Not the biggest Halsey fan, but she can serve such good songs. This single, teaming up with Big Sean and Stefflon Don, brings out a cautionary tale about making sure you know what you want - things aren't always what they seem. Mixing the three genres in one song creates this Disco vibe that came out of nowhere, not to mention a video that seals the piece into perfection.

The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar shine on this song for the "Black Panther" soundtrack. Whether jamming to the radio or warming up for a workout, this was the pump-up jam of 2018. Beats alone can get you moving and grooving, as you get ready to conquer the day. If there are more songs like this to come out for the sequel's soundtrack, then I am patiently waiting for that content to come out.

A song to make you feel rather indifferent to the situation. Not wanting to fall in love, bülow knows where she stands between her and the person of interest. The Electronic song adds dimension with the vocal effects, emphasizing on the tone in the young artist's voice. Much as it's nice to be in a relationship, she's not looking for that. Instead of giving false hopes, she's giving honesty - and it's brutally satisfying.

Some collaborations are too good to deny, such as this piece between Khalid and Normani (former member of Fifth Harmony). Moving into mature content, both artists are looking for an answer to their pondering question: how do they feel for one another? And the guitar adds this depth that makes you feel the tension that lingers through this conversation. Stop fighting the feeling, otherwise you'll get more confused.

Everything about this song is golden. Marking yet again another reunion from the Backstreet Boys, this comeback has been well-received from the media. Not only gaining radio play and Grammy nominations, the track time travels to the boy-group eras, giving you everything your inner fan-girl dreams about. While the dancing has much to desire, you can't get excited that Backstreet's back... alright.
