There will always be new music around, even if that song came out a few years ago. The beauty of music is that it stays, and it's waiting for you to find them. Here are the ten songs that I enjoyed most within 2016.
She comes and she goes as the war of the roses...
10 Blackbear - Califormula (Tarro Remix)
Year: 2014
One of those songs where the remix sounds better than the original. From the manipulated vocals to the repetitive breaks, this lounge track makes everything go away, releasing one from their worries. A good time, all within three minutes.
09 Yukon Blonde - Stairway
Year: 2012
Found this one on the radio, and I am pleasantly surprised by all of the good music played on Alternative channels. This one stood out because it's reminiscent of late 80s, early 90s Rock music. And not to mention, the video makes cleaning a fun-filled chore.
08 Sofi de la Torre - Vermillion
Year: 2014
Best way to describe this song: finding your way back home. It's a song where you want to get lost, knowing that everything will be okay. Such an enchanting song, I wished that there was more music that sounded like this on the radio. Got to keep my ears open to Sofi de la Torre, she's got the potential.
07 Oh Honey - Be Okay
Year: 2014
This song was featured on Glee, and I had to know the original. Such an upbeat song, it's a reminder to live each day without any worries. From fresh cut grass to sunshine kisses, there is no reason not to be so happy. Whenever there is a down day, play this song - it's guaranteed to make everything much better.
Year: 2014
When you ask your friend for a slow K-Pop song, and gives you this gem. If the Korean music industry is doing anything right, it's definitely production. Although a ballad, it's still entertaining that you continue to listen. Not to mention, a rap verse in a slow song is actually a sweet surprise. Once again, North America needs to take a lesson from K-Pop.
05 Angus & Julia Stone - Big Jet Plane
Year: 2009
Music done right, that the song still lingers in your head. From the Maybelline "Fit Me" commercials, this song is a rediscovery, feeling the excitement every time it begins to play. A rather sexual song that comes off very sleek, allow the best of you find out your deepest and darkest secrets. Not to mention, a big sucker for violins, the subtlety is stimulating.

04 Robbie Williams - Candy
Year: 2012
A song I've been meaning to get into my playlist - it only took four years later though. Mix in old school swing with a modern storyline, and you've got an addictive tune from Robbie Williams. I do wish Williams was bigger in North America, this song is the silliness that I find missing.
03 Super Junior - This Is Love
Year: 2014
Not the song, but the video is what lured me. But with that groove and those dance moves, how can you not learn to love such a song? Think of putting all of the heartthrobs in one scene, and being swooned by every move they take. I am all for these big groups, because you can fall in love every time.
02 Mayer Hawthorne - Henny & Gingerale
Year: 2011
I don't believe Mayer Hawthorne can do no wrong, even if the song is based off a drink and Marvin Gaye. The dynamic that Hawthorne brings comes off effortlessly, providing a confection for any music lover to enjoy. Another artist who deserves more attention, just waiting for his career to be catapulted into stardom.
01 Michael Wong (光良) - Fairy Tale (童話)
Year: 2005
And here is the best discovery from 2016. I don't usually listen to Mandarin Music, but it tends to be a ballad that all my friends somehow know. This is the choice karaoke track every time that I go with my friends, and it's a very good one to sing along. Although I may not completely understand the song, I do know that it's a sad track, all about love (as most Mandarin songs usually tend to be). Until the next karaoke track, may this song be forever sung.
