Top 100 of 2014: 10 to 1

The ones that love me, I tend to leave behind...

010 The Chainsmokers - #SELFIE

What other way to celebrate word of the year than in a song? And who else to sing (or rather, talk) than a girl? Oddly enough, I found this song while browsing charts, and I wasn't disappointed. It's brilliant that the Chainsmokers created this song. And be honest, who hasn't taken a picture of their self? It's a cultural phenomenon that we're all sucked into, and this song will remain a classic d";

009 DJ Snake ft Lil Jon - Turn Down For What

Turnip for what? Teriyaki what? Don't even know what Lil Jon says before those four magical words that gets everyone to go crazy and act a fool, but does that really matter? Let's just say for a song with barely any lyrics, it has gotten a lot of attention for its silliness, and its video can vouch for that. It's so simple: scream a bunch of words, put in a beat that needs minor adjustments, and bam! A hit.

008 Selena Gomez - The Heart Wants What It Wants

The surprise of the year goes to my wife :"3 In a heartfelt song, she sings about not wanting to let go of this person, especially when they meant so much. By now, you probably know who it's about, but I'm fascinated that it took three times for her to release the song. The wait was worth it, as it takes your breath away. Personal, and brave of her to express how she truly feels. Relatable, and honest.

007 Lights - Up We Go

Lights came back, and I couldn't be happier! The song is about life, and how it gets better once you've gone down. No more time to be stuck in misery, because there's only one way to get to the top. I do think her voice slightly changed, but it sounds more natural in my opinion. It's a song you can't help but smile until your mouth hurts. With hard work and a spring in your step, nothing can stop you.

006 Taylor Swift - Shake It Off

It's the Pop glory days of Taylor, and she's here to tell you it doesn't matter who you are; just have fun with it! It doesn't matter what people say, because all they can do is talk. How you present yourself is key to become the best self. Who knew that simple drum beat, some horns, and a catchy bridge would be a massive hit that would take the world by storm. Dance, sing, and enjoy yourself!

005 Charli XCX - Boom Clap

Words cannot even describe the love that XCX is feeling. For the film "The Fault In Our Stars," she describes how her heart feels every time she's with this person. So much infatuation, I would imagine this is how a true love would feel. She's the perfect fit for such a romantic song, and her previous works seem irrelevant compared to this. It's the gooey feeling that makes your heart melt.

004 Clean Bandit ft Jess Glynne - Rather Be

Not quite sure how I found this song, but I think it's from the radio. Well produced and wonderfully sung, it gives confirmation that this love can and will survive no matter how hard it may seem. From those electronic bites of sound that is easy to consume to the wild violins that clash in, it's gives you faith, knowing that this person is the one who will be with you through thick and thin. Relaxing.

003 Ariana Grande & The Weeknd - Love Me Harder

When I first heard this song, I had to play it again. I believe this is by far Grande's best work, and the Weeknd's vocals meshes well with hers. It's tugging at the heart, with a need to find out if this relationship will create a beautiful product. Filled with this incredible rhythm, it creates a comfort knowing that they both want to try and see how it progresses. That is one bold gesture to make.

002 Katy Perry - Birthday

Party every day like it's the day that you were born! Despite that I would like to see Perry in a darker direction, I can't help myself from singing along to this infectious song. It's time to celebrate, even if you had a bad day, because every deserves to have a great day. This Disco-esque song had everybody moving, from the club to the gym. So make a wish, and blow out the candles. It'll be good.

001 Calvin Harris - Summer

And here we are, with the Number One song of the year. Let's just say I can very well relate to the lyrics... I thought it was love, but it ended sooner than expected. A rather simple song, but the beat can go on and on and I would never get tired of it. It's in the beat that you feel the emotions, how good it was, and how you wish it never ended... Give it to Harris to make something out of nothing.
