Top 100 of 2016: 20 to 11

When I see potential I just gotta see it through...

020 The Chainsmokers ft Daya - Don’t Let Me Down

Feel like this song could have been a ballad, but the instrumental breaks are essential, completing the experience! When the Chainsmokers create a collaboration, they do not mess around. The track brings you to victory, relying on each other along the journey. Consider this "The Climb," but in its genre. Everything about this song makes it one of the best songs of 2016.

019 Tory Lanez - LA Confidential

Loneliness can kill a person - which leads into this Tory Lanez track. Regarding the subject, it's about needing someone for that one thing, knowing that they are being used. So what's the biggest problem of the song? Well, I enjoy the piece, and the rhythm displays its adult themes mixed in with curiosity. If Daystar Peterson keeps making music like this, I might have to leave my judgement out the door.

018 Selena Gomez - Kill Em With Kindness

That whistle hook is everything. This is more of the Selena Gomez that I know! Throw in a Western showdown with lounge vibes, and you get the best weapon to defeat the enemies. My wife is here with simple words of advice, letting everyone know good defeats evil. I like it when artists can release a song and make it sound like a thrill. Hopefully Selena Gomez does not slow down with the songs next year, it's only going to get better.

017 Adele - Water Under The Bridge

One radio hit I always jam to, even if the song was played to death! Adele delivered such a powerhouse single that fills every corner of the room. From production to the vocals, this song is catchy, and rather hopeful. Although the relationship is coming to an end, Adele's emotions have to be put into consideration. Never coming off as demanding, the track is happier than the rest of "25," and has a pleasant effect on Adele's vocals. Now, just have to wait for the next track after she releases 20 other sad ones.

016 Hailee Steinfeld ft Zedd - Starving

At first, I was skeptical about this song, mostly because of Hailee Steinfeld. While I really enjoyed "Love Myself," the actress had to prove that she is definitely a Pop star... And doesn't she deliver on this track. This laid back single focuses on the breaks with the vocal manipulations, filling in the void between the verses. Also, if this single can make it to Radio Disney, it's got to be popular. I will admit, I do enjoy the Radio Disney edit *slightly* better, but even then, none of the good stuff is taken away. Congratulations Miss Steinfeld, you are here to stay.

015 Britney Spears ft Tinashe - Slumber Party

Now this is the Britney Spears single that everyone needed! Teaming up with Tinashe for the remix, Britney brings back her "Slave" days, using dance as a form of communication to release sexual tension. That riff in the beginning sets the mood, progressing further on until the end. And don't even start the video, it's absolutely perfect! With no ads and full of imagination, the video is a visual sensation. Need more of this Britney from now on, she has been missed oh so dearly.

014 Major Lazer ft Justin Bieber & MØ - Cold Water

Not exactly my favourite song when it was released, it took some time before it became my jam. The difficulty with EDM songs is selecting a favourite one - some of them are harder to distinguish from another. But this song had that inspirational sound, going into an adventure knowing that someone has got your back. I can always rely on Major Lazer to create a single that can be enjoyed by everyone, I'm sure that he is a true romantic.

013 Rihanna ft Drake - Work

Either one of two people with this song: loving or hating the track. Inspired by Jamaican Dancehall comes one of the most quoted songs of 2016, mostly for its one word: Work. I enjoy Rihanna's venture into music, and that she opens the public to other genres that they don't necessarily listen to every day. Adding Drake, the main audible voice, was teasing everyone with their relationship, but she denies it... But then the video says something else. But I do love the song, and I have to wait for what new sound Rihanna will deliver.

012 Charlie Puth ft Selena Gomez - We Don’t Talk Anymore

Heartbreak never has been so honest. More of a dance tune than a sad song, the Charlie Put and Selena Gomez collaboration exposes the truth about love: sometimes it ends, and you have to move on. What seemed like a long time with someone now becomes memories, quickly fading away. Put to a melodic beat, the song becomes an ear worm that can help anyone cope with a breakup. Sounding a bit like Mario's "Let Me Love You," it's one of Charlie Puth's best songs so far.

011 Gwen Stefani - Make Me Like You

Onto a different aspect of love comes Gwen Stefani's undeniably smiling love song. Filled with sunshine and rainbows, the track is reminiscent of her "L.A.M.B" days, exploding with sweetness that is too much to handle. Everything in the song is Pop perfection, from the background singers to the cheesy effects during instrumental breaks. Not Gwen Stefani's best single, but no denying that every time this track comes up, I find myself smiling.
